If you don't have water color paper I would suggest skipping them. And you should look up resources before drawing. Like Google hand holding a sword and basalisk. Other than that well done

Krzeslicko responds:

Hah, guess you're right. Those bruises look really awful. Nut I love water colours and when I get my hands on the paper I will try using again. And you're right with the references, this doesn't look too good either...
Anyways, thank you very much for your opinion! I'll try sticking to it as much as I can in the future!

Its very rough and stiff. Look into anatomy poses and try to loosen up. With the shading use a soft brush to blend together light and shadow for the softer transitions. Then go over them with a lower opacity brush for texturing. If your program dosent allow it than just do what you can *-*

LeCanart responds:

i´m going to try, thanks for the coment :)

Oh man I was hoping someone would make tree beard. While using colored pencils you should make sure to shade very softly until its almost flat and then gradually get harder until its as dark as you want it. That or use a blending stump will get rid of white flecks where you can see the paper

ArtBecomesAlive responds:

yes I know :/ the paper is really rough and I couldn't make it look better but I must say, it looks better in original that on the foto ;)
Anyway thanks for the comment. I'm always trying to get some input :)

Strange sillhouets all I would say is learn more about anatomy and about what is defeated to as tone shifts. Like when you cast a shadow on skin it gets darker but it also get a little more red. And highlights on skin get just a touch more yellow.

tinyrutabaga responds:

Ah. :/ yeah. I agree, I have a lot to learn still. Thanks for the input. I hope to improve.

Oh man add in some bright rim lights around the dragon and nazghoul that will really force the characters forward and draw your eye more nice use of transparancys

SamanthaBranch responds:

Thank you for the suggestion! :D

You have one but very important problem. Make your outlines more solid. Yours are semi transparent and fuzzy. If you like the result its fine but I promise you if you can use layers make a sketch layer than a solid line work layer than start coloring. Also if you change the color of the line work depending on what your coloring that will make so mulch more definition in your work. Look up no game no life. They use red outlines for everything and its very nice.

Grafwitnir responds:

Thanks for your feedback! Always trying to improve myself. I've inked it a bit, think it's better now.
Well, I'am very new to (digital) art, so I'm not very used to Layers :D

Its very dark all around. When you have harsher shadows you should maintain some highlights and a strong silhouette or it Kind of blurs together and becomes unrecognisable ever heard of a rim light I think your piece could use one

JThe-Dog responds:

ok thank you so much that's really cool^^

love the monotones throughout the piece gives an amazing glow to it. have you thought maby adding a sillhuet of hogwarts castle in the background, i think that would look amazing, like just move the charactors to the left side third and have the castle in the distance in the upper right third, just a suggestion, its still better than mine good job :D

IrmaZwart responds:

Thank you! I was thinking the same when finishing up the piece, I've tried multiple times to add a vague silhouette in the background, but it just didn't work out well. But thanks for the advice though :D

really like that eye nice, you should look into getting some skin brushes, i dont know if your using ps or some other program, but if you are using something that supports it defiantly get some skin tone brushes here is some of the pics i made with some skin tone brushes the anime man onw i used hair brushes along with skin tone it makes such a big differance for such a small thing.

this isnt a bad set . http://www.obsidiandawn.com/skin-textures-photoshop-brushes

Glamraneth responds:

Thank you for the advise and for the links! I will search for some brushes.

not sure if your just going for a blury estetic or what but its not half bad :D i recommended you for the art portal as a scouted user. you need a couple more people to do the same to get you there tho.

lineart, dont know if you did it digital or traditional, but you need smoother lines, i saw in your other piece about Hansel and gretal you used alot of line weight variation, which is good, but its still not clean and smooth line work, you need to practice doing long strong strokes with your pen if your doing traditional and fixing messed up lines if digital, paint tool sai is great for line art if your using a mouse like i do. all of my digital work was done with a mouse.
-->of course you could use shaky lines on purpose if so your doing great, if not just practice some.

digital painting, practice selecting an area with the lasso, magic wand, or whatever your program uses and use a variaty of brushes, dont be afraid to cell shade, and use harsh color changes, having everything look well gradiated and flush dosent really look that great, so you can get brushes and things to make textures and use things other than the soft brush for everything. your skin tones are great im assuming you pulled colors from something, but the hair is to soft and undefined, look up mark crilley on youtube, draw with jazza also dose great videos, they and others have videos about hair and things like that,

refrances are allways a good thing.

also backgrounds can really make your pieces like this pop, so i would suggest a brighter white background to make your character stand out more, higher contrast allways makes for a more dynamic image..

you can msg me if you have any questions want to talk about art or want to do some kind of colab or something, also you can friend me on facebook. or sub to me on youtube if you like :D

if your wandering why i typed all of this, i just wanted to help out a fellow artist and make a friend :D

Amy-White responds:

Thanks for a very thoughtful critique! I am new to the digital medium and I am still learning my way around the brushes and developing my own style within the medium. I see what you're talking about and agree. I do need to spend more time on those skills. It's why I've done inktober this year.
